Is June a good time to visit Bali?

Yes. June is one of the best months to visit Bali, with dry, sunny weather, fresher air than in the spring and the surf season in full swing. For the first three weeks the island is still in shoulder season, with good availability and fair prices. From the last week of the month it starts to fill as Australian winter holidays and Indonesian school holidays begin, and the run into peak season gets under way. June is also the start of the Bali Arts Festival, the island's biggest celebration of music and dance.

Come in the first half of June for the best value; come late in the month if you want the festival in full flow and do not mind busier roads.

The weather: dry, breezy and comfortable

Long-term averages put June at around 30°C by day and 23°C at night on the coast, with roughly 70 to 90 mm of rain on only about five days. The southeast trade winds are now steady, humidity falls to some of its lowest levels of the year and evenings are pleasantly breezy.

This is when the highlands get properly cool. In Kintamani, Bedugul and Munduk, nights can drop into the mid-teens Celsius, and the summit of Mount Batur before sunrise is cold and often windy. The sea is cooling slightly, to around 27°C, still very comfortable for swimming. Rice terraces begin to turn from green to gold in places as harvest approaches, so ask locally which fields have been freshly planted.

Crowds and prices

June has two halves.

  • June 1 to around 18: shoulder season. Europeans have not yet started their summer holidays, Australian schools are in term, and rates are similar to May.
  • From around June 19: the Northern Territory breaks on June 19, and Victoria and Queensland on June 26, with the other states following on July 3. Indonesian schools typically break for the end of the academic year from late June into mid-July. Family areas such as Kuta, Nusa Dua and Sanur fill quickly, and prices begin to rise toward the July peak.

Indonesian national holidays in June 2027 are Pancasila Day on Tuesday, June 1, and Islamic New Year on Sunday, June 6. Neither has a big impact on Bali beyond a few busier days at the main attractions.

If you plan to travel in the last week of June or in July, book flights and villas early.

Ceremonies and events in June 2027

  • Pagerwesi, Wednesday, June 2: four days after Saraswati, Pagerwesi is a day of spiritual fortification, marked with temple prayers and offerings, especially in the north of the island around Buleleng.
  • Tumpek Landep, Saturday, June 12: originally a day to bless the kris dagger and other metal objects, it now extends to anything made of metal, including cars, motorbikes and machinery. Watch for scooters and trucks decorated with palm-leaf offerings outside homes and workshops.
  • Bali Arts Festival (Pesta Kesenian Bali): a month-long festival of Balinese music, dance, drama and crafts, held mainly at the Taman Werdhi Budaya Art Centre in Denpasar. It opens with a grand parade from the Bajra Sandhi Monument. The 2026 festival ran from June 13 to July 11; the 2027 dates are usually announced in spring. Many evening performances are free or cheap.
  • Kite season begins. As the trade winds strengthen, village kite teams start flying their huge traditional kites over the rice fields and beaches, building toward the big competitions in July.

What to do in Bali in June

  • Surf the Bukit. June is prime surf season on the west coast. Southwest swells meet offshore trade winds at Uluwatu, Padang Padang and Bingin, which are for experienced surfers only. Beginners should stay at Kuta or Batu Bolong. Our beginner surf guide explains where to start.
  • Hike at dawn. Clear, dry mornings make the sunrise trek on Mount Batur excellent. Bring a fleece for the summit.
  • Go to the Arts Festival. An evening of gamelan, Legong or sendratari dance drama at the Art Centre in Denpasar is one of the best cultural experiences in Bali, and you sit among Balinese families rather than tour groups.
  • Explore the far west and north. West Bali National Park and the reefs of Menjangan are calm and clear, and the dolphin boats off Lovina usually head out on calm water at dawn.
  • Take a Nusa Penida trip. Seas are generally calm, though the south coast can see big swell on some days.

Where to base yourself

For surfers and sunset lovers, the Bukit Peninsula around Uluwatu is the place to be in June. Sanur is the most convenient base for the Arts Festival in Denpasar and for boats to Nusa Penida. Ubud remains ideal for culture and hiking, and the north coast around Lovina and Pemuteran is worth a few nights for diving and quiet beaches before peak season. In the last week of June, consider Canggu and Pererenan only if you accept heavy traffic.

What to pack for June

  • Light, breathable clothes for the day.
  • A fleece or light jacket for highland nights and the Batur summit.
  • A rash guard for surfing and long snorkels.
  • Reef-safe sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses; the dry-season sun is intense.
  • Trail shoes for volcanoes and waterfall paths.
  • A sarong and sash for temples and the Arts Festival's temple-courtyard performances.

You can leave the rain jacket behind. See Bali weather by month for how June compares, and build your trip with our free itinerary builder.
