Bali Honeymoon Guide: Where to Stay, What to Do and a 10-Day Plan

Few places make romance feel as effortless as Bali: a private pool above a jungle gorge, sunset over the Indian Ocean, a flower bath after a day among temples. The trick is choosing the right bases and not trying to see everything.

Ubud

The short answer

For most couples, the perfect Bali honeymoon splits seven to ten days between Ubud for jungle villas, rice terraces and temples, and Uluwatu for cliff-top sunsets and beaches. Swap Uluwatu for Nusa Dua if you want a polished five-star resort with calm water, and add two nights in Sidemen if you want quiet countryside. Come in May, June or September for dry weather without peak crowds. A comfortable honeymoon costs roughly US$150 to $250 a day for two on the ground, an upscale one US$300 to $600, and true luxury starts around US$800.

The best areas for honeymooners

Ubud: jungle romance. Bali's cultural heart is where private pool villas hang over the Ayung and Wos river valleys. Days drift between rice terrace walks, temples, cooking classes and spa treatments, and evenings bring dance performances and excellent restaurants. Stay just outside the busy center, in Sayan, Penestanan or Keliki, for silence and views. Iconic splurges include Four Seasons Sayan and Mandapa, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve.

Uluwatu: cliffs and sunsets. On the Bukit Peninsula, villas and resorts perch on limestone cliffs above surf breaks and white-sand coves like Melasti and Bingin. The sunsets are the best in Bali, and the area has some of the island's most dramatic luxury resorts, such as Bulgari, Six Senses and Alila Villas Uluwatu. It is spread out, so plan on a driver.

Nusa Dua: five-star ease. A gated resort enclave with manicured grounds, calm lagoon-like water and big international names like The Mulia and The St. Regis. It is less "Balinese" but perfect if you want to unwind after a long flight, with everything on site.

Sidemen: the quiet east. A green valley of terraced rice fields and weaving villages with Mount Agung on the skyline, about an hour to 90 minutes from Ubud. Boutique lodges here are small, peaceful and good value. It suits couples who want to slow right down.

Our where to stay guide compares all of Bali's regions in more detail.

Romantic experiences worth planning

  • Sunset Kecak at Uluwatu Temple. A fire dance on a cliff with the ocean turning gold behind it. Tickets are IDR 150,000 each, on top of temple entry.
  • Sunrise over Mount Batur. A pre-dawn climb, breakfast on the rim, Mount Agung across the caldera. Hard work for a reward you will remember.
  • A purification blessing. Bathe together in the holy springs of Tirta Empul or quieter Pura Gunung Kawi Sebatu. Read our Tirta Empul guide first.
  • A couples' spa ritual. Balinese massage, a scrub and a flower bath for two costs from around US$40 at a good day spa to several hundred at a luxury resort.
  • Floating breakfast in your villa pool. A Bali cliché for a reason. Most villas arrange it for a small fee.
  • Seafood dinner on Jimbaran Bay. Tables on the sand, grilled fish and the sun dropping into the sea. Agree the price per kilo first.
  • Rice terraces at golden hour. Walk Jatiluwih in the late afternoon, or the free Campuhan Ridge in Ubud at sunrise.
  • A night on Nusa Lembongan. Snorkel with manta rays and watch the sunset from the cliffs of Nusa Ceningan.

Honeymoon budget ranges for 2026

Prices for two people, excluding international flights, at roughly IDR 18,000 to the US dollar:

  • Comfortable: around US$150 to $250 a day. A private pool villa at around US$80 to $150 a night, meals at warungs and good restaurants, a driver on sightseeing days.
  • Upscale: around US$300 to $600 a day. Boutique resorts and design villas at US$200 to $400 a night, spa treatments, a few special dinners.
  • Luxury: from around US$800 a day. Top resorts typically from US$500 to well over $1,000 a night, private guides and fine dining.

Budget for the one-off costs too: a Visa on Arrival each and the IDR 150,000 (about US$8) tourist levy per person. Our Bali trip cost guide breaks down everyday prices.

The best months for a Bali honeymoon

The dry season runs from April to October. May, June and September are ideal: sunny, less humid, and quieter than the July and August peak. October is still mostly dry and often cheaper. The rainy season, roughly November to March, brings afternoon downpours and lush green landscapes, with lower prices, but beach days are less reliable. Christmas and New Year are expensive and busy.

Note that the whole island shuts down for Nyepi, the Day of Silence, on Monday, March 8, 2027: no flights, no going out, lights off. It can be magical if you are already in a lovely villa, but do not plan to arrive that day. See our guide to the best time to visit Bali.

A 7 to 10 day honeymoon outline

Days 1 to 4: Ubud. Arrive and transfer to Ubud, about 60 to 90 minutes from the airport. Spend a slow first day by the pool. Then visit Tirta Empul and Tegallalang early, take a cooking class, see a Legong dance at Ubud Palace, and book a couples' spa afternoon. Climb Mount Batur on day three or four if you are both up for it.

Days 5 to 6: Sidemen (optional). Move east for two quiet nights among rice fields. Visit Besakih on a clear morning or the water palace of Tirta Gangga.

Days 7 to 10: Uluwatu. Drive south, around two and a half to three hours from Sidemen. Mix beach days at Melasti and Bingin with the sunset Kecak at Uluwatu Temple, a seafood dinner in Jimbaran and a beach club afternoon. Fit in a night on Nusa Lembongan, or simply stay put. From Uluwatu the airport is under an hour away.

With only seven days, do three nights in Ubud and four in Uluwatu or Nusa Dua, and skip Sidemen.

A few practical tips

Book villas directly or through trusted platforms and check recent reviews for road noise and construction. Hire a private driver rather than renting a scooter; the roads are demanding. Tell your hotel you are on honeymoon, since many add flower petals, a cake or a bottle of sparkling wine. And when visiting temples, wear a sarong and sash and follow our temple etiquette guide.
