The short answer

Not counting flights, a trip to Bali costs roughly IDR 450,000 to 700,000 (US$25 to $40) per person per day on a budget, IDR 1.3 to 2.5 million (US$70 to $140) mid-range, and IDR 5.5 million (US$300) or more for luxury. A typical mid-range week for one person lands somewhere around US$700 to $1,400 on the ground, plus a few one-off entry costs.

All prices here are 2026 figures, converted at roughly IDR 18,000 to the US dollar, which is where the rupiah traded in October 2026. Prices move with seasons and exchange rates, so treat them as a realistic guide rather than a quote.

One-off costs when you arrive

Before you spend a rupiah on fun, budget for these:

  • Visa on Arrival / e-VOA: IDR 500,000 (about US$28) for 30 days. A rise to IDR 750,000 for the e-VOA has been proposed, so check before you go.
  • Bali tourist levy: IDR 150,000 (about US$8) per person, paid once per visit at lovebali.baliprov.go.id or on arrival.
  • SIM card: Telkomsel's tourist SIM runs from around IDR 150,000 to 250,000 (US$8 to $14) for roughly 20 to 25 GB over 30 days. Indosat and XL bundles can be cheaper in town; eSIMs bought online start around IDR 80,000.
  • Airport transfer: around IDR 150,000 to 200,000 to Kuta, 350,000 to 500,000 to Canggu and 450,000 to 650,000 to Ubud by car.

For one traveler, that is roughly IDR 1.2 to 1.5 million (US$65 to $85) before your holiday properly begins.

Accommodation: the biggest variable

Rooms are where budgets diverge most. Typical nightly prices in 2026:

  • Budget: hostels and guesthouses around IDR 150,000 to 350,000 (US$8 to $20). Many private rooms in family homestays include air conditioning, breakfast and a garden.
  • Mid-range: boutique hotels and private villas around IDR 650,000 to 1.3 million (US$35 to $70), often with a pool.
  • Luxury: private pool villas and resorts from around IDR 3.3 million (US$180) to well beyond IDR 10 million (US$600).

Location matters. Uluwatu and Seminyak are the priciest beach areas, Ubud has the widest range, and Amed and Sidemen are the best value. Expect higher rates in July, August and over Christmas and New Year.

Food and drink

Eating well in Bali can be remarkably cheap if you follow the locals.

  • Warung meal such as nasi campur: IDR 25,000 to 45,000 (US$1.50 to $2.50)
  • Fresh young coconut: IDR 15,000 to 25,000
  • Smoothie bowl and coffee at a Canggu cafe: IDR 120,000 to 180,000 (US$7 to $10)
  • Mid-range dinner with a drink: IDR 200,000 to 350,000 (US$11 to $20)
  • Beach clubs and fine dining: US$40 to $100 or more per person with drinks

Alcohol is heavily taxed, so cocktails and imported wine cost far more than the food around them. Many restaurants add tax and service, often marked "++" on the menu, so check the bottom line. A budget traveler eating mainly at warungs spends around IDR 150,000 to 220,000 a day; a mid-range mix of cafes and restaurants runs around IDR 350,000 to 650,000.

Getting around: Gojek, Grab and drivers

  • Scooter rental: around IDR 60,000 to 90,000 (US$3.50 to $5) per day. Only ride if you hold the right license and are experienced; the traffic is demanding.
  • Gojek or Grab scooter taxi: around IDR 15,000 to 30,000 for a short 1 to 5 km ride.
  • Gojek or Grab car: around IDR 45,000 to 120,000 for short trips and IDR 60,000 to 130,000 for 5 to 10 km, more at peak times. Pickups are restricted in central Ubud, much of Uluwatu and parts of Canggu.
  • Private driver: around IDR 600,000 to 1.2 million (US$35 to $65) for a full day including car and fuel, split between everyone in the car. This is the best value for day trips to the east, the north or the rice terraces.

Activities and entrance fees

Temple and sight fees are modest, and they add up only if you pack every day. Adult prices in 2026 include:

  • Uluwatu Temple: IDR 60,000, plus IDR 150,000 for the sunset Kecak dance
  • Tanah Lot and Tirta Empul: IDR 75,000 each
  • Ubud's Sacred Monkey Forest: IDR 130,000
  • Jatiluwih rice terraces: IDR 100,000; Tegallalang: around IDR 25,000 to 50,000
  • Besakih Temple: IDR 150,000 including shuttle
  • Mount Batur sunrise trek: around IDR 500,000 to 800,000 (US$28 to $45) with pickup and breakfast
  • Nusa Penida day tour from Sanur: around IDR 700,000 to 1.1 million (US$40 to $60) including fast boat

Sample daily budgets

Budget, about IDR 450,000 to 700,000 (US$25 to $40): a homestay room, warung meals, a rented scooter or short Gojek rides, and one or two temple visits or a beach day.

Mid-range, about IDR 1.3 to 2.5 million (US$70 to $140): a boutique hotel or villa share, cafe breakfasts and restaurant dinners, a driver for day trips split between two, and a paid activity most days.

Luxury, IDR 5.5 million (US$300) and up: a pool villa or five-star resort, fine dining and beach clubs, a private car and driver on call, spa treatments and private tours.

How to stretch your money

  • Travel in shoulder season. May, June and September give dry weather at lower rates than peak months.
  • Eat local at lunch. A warung lunch and a nicer dinner keeps both your budget and your palate happy.
  • Share drivers. Two to four people splitting a day car makes island-wide sightseeing cheap.
  • Withdraw larger amounts. ATMs commonly charge IDR 25,000 to 50,000 per withdrawal, on top of your bank's fees. Use machines inside banks or convenience stores.
  • Book the levy and visa only on official sites. Lookalike websites charge extra for the same documents.
